Closing Ceremony for JICA Group Training Course on the “Appropriate Management of Land and Water Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in Arid & Semi-Arid Regions”

  The university hosted the 2014 JICA Group Training Course closing ceremony on 11th November and President Teshima awarded the trainees with diplomas. JICA Chugoku International Center staff and people related to research such as university training staff gathered to celebrate with the trainees.

 JICA Group Training Course on the “Appropriate Management of Land and Water Resources for Sustainable Agriculture in Arid & Semi-Arid Regions” was commissioned to Tottori University by JICA has been implemented since 1989 in order to support improvement in the required knowledge and skills for the appropriate management of land and water resources for sustainable agriculture in arid & semi-arid regions such as the countries of Africa and the Middle East. The JICA Group Training Course in the agricultural field has been focusing on arid land and is a training course with the characteristic of utilizing the results of the arid land research, a strength of this university. This year’s training course trained 12 engineers and researchers from the central and regional governments of 10 African and Middle Eastern countries conducting management of land/water resources.

 After training at the university, the 12 trainees will undergo supplementary overseas training for approximately 1 month at Egypt’s National Water Research Center with which the university has an exchange program agreement in order to acquire practical field training in Egypt which has arid land problems similar to that of the home countries of the trainees. This training will start on 13th November.
