The Diploma Presentation Ceremony for Academic Year 2017 of the Graduate School of Engineering, Tottori University

Dr. Irie with his diploma

 On 25 September 2017, the Diploma Presentation Ceremony for Academic Year 2017 of the Graduate School of Engineering, Tottori University was conducted. At the ceremony, Prof. Yasushi Kawata, Dean, awarded a diploma to every graduate, while Prof. Zhongchun Chen, Vice-Dean, handed a commemorative gift to them.

 In his address, Prof. Kawata encouraged the graduates as follows. “A poet, Mitsuo Aida left this phrase, ‘Learn all your life, stay young all your life.’ I totally agree with him and would like you all to keep inquisitiveness and love a challenge. Please proud of yourself that you have completed your study at Tottori University Graduate School of Engineering and do your best when returning to your place in society.”

 One of the graduates, Dr. Yoshihiro Irie, has committed to his research under the supervision of Prof. Satoru Kishida at the Department of Information and Electronics, Graduate School of Engineering, while also acting as the president of Irie Sangyo Co., Ltd. He obtained his doctoral degree in engineering at the age of 73, the oldest age since the establishment of the Graduate School of Engineering. At his completion of his study at the Graduate School, Dr. Irie talked about his future determination. “Mentally I’m still in my 50th. I feel that I can still beat young people, and I intend to be active in 10 years and even in 20 years. I will create products making use of the results of my research at Tottori University, and want to continue initiating something new going forward.” He also sent a message to young students, “All I can tell them is that I want them to study aiming for the highest position. If they dedicate themselves to study setting their own goal, then they should be able to have more fulfilling university life.”
