History of Tottori University

1874 Training Center for Elementary School Teachers was established
1876 Training Center for Elementary School Teachers was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Tottori Public Normal School
1876 Tottori Prefectural Tottori Public Normal School was renamed to Shimane Prefectural Tottori Public Normal School
1882 Shimane Prefectural Tottori Public Normal School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Public Normal School
1885 Tottori Prefectural Public Normal School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Normal School
1886 Tottori Prefectural Normal School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Ordinary Normal School
1898 Tottori Prefectural Ordinary Normal School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Normal School
1920 Tottori Advanced Agricultural School was established
1921 Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Male Teachers of Supplementary Vocational School was established
1926 Tottori Prefectural Women's Normal School was established
1931 Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Male Teachers of Supplementary Vocational School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Teachers of Supplementary Vocational School
1937 Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Teachers of Supplementary Vocational School was renamed to Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Teachers of Adolescent Youth School
1942 Tottori Advanced Agricultural School was renamed to Tottori Advanced Agricultural and Forestry School
1943 Tottori Prefectural Normal School and Tottori Prefectural Women's Normal School was merged into the Tottori Teacher Training Institute (abolished in 1951)
1944 Tottori Prefectural Training Center for Teachers of Adolescent Youth School was renamed to Tottori Young Men's Teacher Training Institute (abolished in 1951)
1944 Tottori Advanced Agricultural and Forestry School was renamed to Tottori Professional School of Agriculture and Forestry (abolished in 1952)
1945 Yonago Professional School of Medicine was established (abolished in 1951)
1948 Yonago Medical College was established (abolished in 1960)
1949 Tottori University was established by Tottori Teacher Training Institute, Tottori Young Men's Teacher Training Institute, Tottori Professional School of Agriculture and Forestry, Yonago Professional School of Medicine and Yonago Medical College, resulting in three departments (Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture) and University Library
1965 Faculty of Engineering was established
1967 Faculty of General Education was established (abolished in 1995)
1969 Health Science Center was established
1975 College of Medical Care Technology was established (abolished in 2002)
1990 United Graduate School of Veterinary, Yamaguchi University (Doctoral Cource) was established
2004 University-affiliated Schools was established
2008 Organization for Supporting University Education was established

Faculty of Regional Sciences

1949 Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established
1951 Renamed to Affiliated Elementary School
1951 Renamed to Affiliated Secondary School
1966 Faculty of Arts and Sciences was renamed Faculty of Education
1967 Affiliated Kindergarten was established
1978 Affiliated School for Children with Special Needs was established
1990 University Educational Center for Practical Studies and Teaching was established
1999 Faculty of Education was renamed to Faculty of Education and Regional Sciences
2001 University Educational Center for Practical Studies and Teaching was reorganized to Center for Research and Development in Education (abolished in 2004)
2004 Faculty of Education and Regional Sciences was renamed to Faculty of Regional Sciences
2004 University Art Center was established

Faculty of Medicine

1949 Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital were established
1951 Renamed to Affiliated Nursing School (abolished in 1977)
1962 Institute of Neurological Sciences was established (abolished in 2009)
1966 Affiliated Institute of Steroid Medical Studies was established (abolished in 1993)
1967 Affiliated Institute of Hygienic Inspection Engineering was established
1972 Affiliated Institute of Hygienic Inspection Engineering was renamed to Affiliated Institute of Clinical Inspection Engineering (abolished in 1978)
1987 Laboratory Animal Research Center was established

Faculty of Engineering

1965 Faculty of Engineering was established
2004 Innovative Center for Engineering Education was established
2008 Electronic Display Research Center was established
2012 Center for Regional Manegement and Safety Engineering was established

Faculty of Agriculture

1949 Faculty of Agriculture was established (University Farms, University Forests)
1953 University Veterinary Medical Center was established
1958 Affiliated Sand Dune Research Institute was established (abolished in 1990)
2005 University Farms and University Forests was merged into University Field Science Center
2005 Fungus/Mushroom Resource and Research Center was established
2005 The Avian Zoonoses Research Center was established

Non-degree Course

1955 Non-degree Course for Graduates for Agricultural Sciences was established (abolished in 1967)
1964 Non-degree Course for Graduates for Arts and Sciences was established
1966 Non-degree Course for Graduates for Arts and Sciences was renamed to Non-degree Course for Graduates for Education (abolished in 1994)
1969 Non-degree Course for Graduates for Engineering was established (abolished in 1974)

Campus Moves-Changes of Location

25-Aug-1950 Faculty of Arts and Sciences moved from 137, Higashi-machi to 1,5-chome, Tachikawa-cho (the former site of 47th Military Unit).
20-Aug-1952 Administration Bureau and Student Welfare Section Moved from 137, Higashi-machi to 1,5-chome, Tachikawa-cho (the former site of 47th Military Unit).
15-Aug-1966 Administration Bureau, Student Affairs Dept., Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, University Library (5-1, Tachikawa-cho) and Faculty of Agriculture (Yoshikata) put together on the Koyama Campus (1-1, Koyama-cho).
1-Sep-1977 Tottori University's address changed from 1-1, Koyama-cho, to 101, Minami 4-chome, Koyama-cho.
22-Aug-1985 Affiliated Elementary and Secondary School moved from 101, Shotoku-cho to 101, Minami 4-chome, Koyama-cho.
