The International Platform for Dryland Research and Education (IPDRE) was established in January 2015 to form the nation's leading research and education platform for drylands and developing countries, which are our focus area, through involving faculy members from all university faculties, the Organization for Educational Support and International Affairs, and the Organization for Research Initiative and Promotion. IPDRE is committed to interdisciplinary research and education utilizing cutting-edge research facilities and research achievements of the Arid Land Research Center of Tottori University, a research center dedicated to dryland-related problems such as desertification on global scale. In the 4th medium-term objectives period, adding to academic values, we have set a mission to make social impact and public values (economy, society, environment) that contribute to improvement of the sustainability in our focus areas. For doing this, we are aiming to contribute to addressing global issues in drylands by further strengthening and expanding the functions of IPDRE. 2) Human resources development of global leaders: We will foster global leaders and innovators who are prepared with capacities to contribute to sustainable development and adding value to the public in our focus areas. 3) Promotion of collaboration and DX in partnership with Japanese and international organizations: We will promote collaborative creation partnership with Japanese and overseas institutions deploying the digital infrastructure formed by digital transformation (DX). 2) We will ensure transparency to society by having not only university associates but also outside experts participate in the management of IPDRE. 3) To achieve the mission, the International Research Unit, International DX Unit, Collaboration Support Unit, and Global Learning and Engagement Team are organized to promote three programs under the supervision of the Strategic Management Office.1. Three programs for the 4th medium-term objectives period 1) Promotion of innovation research: We will challenge ourselves to bring about change in society and make new values through innovation, i.e., the creation of new goods, services, technologies and approaches, etc.2. Organizational structure 1) The University President and the Trustee of Research and IT serve as the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director, respectively. Under the leadership of these directors, IPDRE cooperates with the Arid Land Research Center (ALRC), all faculties, and other departments.3.
